Song Per Week Project

Andy Berkhout may have been a bit too ambitious when dreaming up his latest New Year’s resolution.  The prolific singer-songwriter has created the Song Per Week Project, a commitment to record and release one freely downloadable song on his website during every week of the 2010 calendar year.

Some of the recordings will feature polished songs, while others will allow listeners to hear “demos,” or rough sketches of newly written songs.  Listeners will be able to comment on songs and vote for their favorites using a message board on Berkhout’s website.

“I’m certainly not the first person to do something like this,” says Berkhout.  “I’m just one of the many musicians who sees the Internet as a way to share what I’m doing with a huge community of people who really care about music.”

General Bio

Andy Berkhout is an independent singer-songriter who grew up in Wisconsin and now calls Saint Louis, Missouri home.

Berkhout’s songwriting includes a varied and diverse body of work.  In July of 2009, Berkhout released his self-produced debut EP, Wake Up for the Day. The record, which has brought comparisons to Sufjan Stevens and Iron & Wine, features songs composed on the guitar, banjo, and ukulele.  In the same year, Berkhout released the free Songs On Tape EP, a showcase of three new songs that were recorded on an analog 4-track.  In 2010, Berkhout released the Be Silent EP, a short record that features electric guitars and folk-inspired harmonies, all performed by Berkhout and recorded in his bedroom studio.

Berkhout continues to write and perform prolifically.  For his latest endeavor, the Song Per Week Project, Berkhout will record and freely release one song on his website for every week of the 2010 calendar year.
